CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — A new grant program aims to support local small, minority-owned businesses with the help of the Charlottesville and Albemarle County Offices of Economic Development.

The United Way of Greater Charlottesville has announced the inaugural round of ENVISION Grants.

According to a release, it has up to $140,000 to award in grants of up to $10,000 each.

Eligible businesses are invited to apply for funding, which is intended to increase the capacity of established businesses.

The release says the goal is to provide support to entrepreneurs who often lack access to the capital resources they need to expand and grow a business or add employees.

By helping such businesses grow, the grants can help to increase the regional tax base, helping to build a more prosperous community for everyone.

United Way says selected businesses will need to sign a grant agreement that will outline the grant terms and conditions before they can receive any funds.

Applications need to be submitted online by 12 p.m. May 26 and recipients will be announced by June 30.
