Ghanaians living in the Philippines can now celebrate as on Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16, they, for the first time, had their fingerprints captured to renew their passports.

The service was a much-needed relief for those who had been living with manual passports which made renewing their passports a difficult and time-consuming process.

In the past, Ghanaians had to fly to Ghana or Malaysia to have their fingerprints taken but thanks to the efforts of Her Excellency Florence Buerki Akonor and the Consul, Mr. Bernard Nwiah Yanzu, they are finally able to access this service in the Philippines.

This is a significant milestone for the Ghanaian nationals living in Philippines who have been waiting for a convenient and accessible passport renewal service.

The event, which took place in the capital city of Manila, was well-received by the Ghanaian community.

Many people turned up to take advantage of the service which was made possible by the collaboration between the Ghanaian embassy in Malaysia and the consulate in the Philippines.

Speaking about the success of the event, Her Excellency Florence Buerki Akonor expressed her satisfaction with the positive response from the Ghanaian community in the country.

She said; “We are delighted to be able to provide this service to Ghanaians living in the Philippines. We understand the difficulties they have faced in the past and we are committed to making the passport renewal process as smooth and accessible as possible for them.”

Mr. Bernard Nwiah Yanzu also commented on the success of the event saying “we are very happy to have been able to provide this service to our fellow Ghanaians in the Philippines”.

“We hope that this will be the first of many initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians living abroad”, he added.

The success of the event has generated a lot of positive feedback from the Ghanaian community in the Philippines with many expressing their gratitude for the new service.

The ability to renew their passports without having to leave the country is a major step forward for them and a testament to the dedication and hard work of the embassy and consulate.

Andy Gundlach didn’t have entrepreneurial roots. But, he says, “I came from a good home with good supportive parents and they let me be me.” That turned out to be someone with a tremendous love of people and a passion for business growth and development, one that’s now focused on fitness franchises. Gundlach, who had wanted to be a personal trainer, is diversifying his franchise holdings with two fitness brands and says he couldn’t be happier.

He has learned, however, that as much as he would like to be a hands-on operator who is everywhere doing everything, he simply can’t. As his unit count has grown, so has his understanding that to grow more he had to delegate.

“I had to learn to trust my people more—to let them surprise me,” he says. “I was forced to do it. I just couldn’t operate the way I did, having my hands in everything. Things won’t always be perfect, but I have empowered a whole group of people, and I sleep better at night.”

Beyond that, Gundlach knows that the opportunities in fitness are abundant and he wants to take advantage of that. “There is really so much opportunity to expand, to capture more of the market,” he says. His two franchise brands complement each other, so for the moment, he’ll be sticking with the fitness sector.

How did Covid-19 affect your business? It was one of the toughest things I have ever gone through, but now we are a much stronger organization. It exposed our weaknesses and forced us to look at every aspect of our business, every line on our P&L, and how we operate.

How are you handling rising employee costs (payroll, minimum wage, healthcare, etc.)? We have had to make a small price increase on new memberships.

How do you reward/recognize top-performing employees? We do an annual awards celebration for our 200 employees and give out many awards for performance. We also continue to add leadership positions as we expand.

BioAtla didn’t record any revenue over the last year, indicating that it’s an early stage company still developing its business. So while we can’t look to sales to understand growth, we can look at how the cash burn is changing to understand how expenditure is trending over time. With the cash burn rate up 44% in the last year, it seems that the company is ratcheting up investment in the business over time. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but investors should be mindful of the fact that will shorten the cash runway. While the past is always worth studying, it is the future that matters most of all. So you might want to take a peek at how much the company is expected to grow in the next few years.

How Hard Would It Be For BioAtla To Raise More Cash For Growth?

Given its cash burn trajectory, BioAtla shareholders may wish to consider how easily it could raise more cash, despite its solid cash runway. Issuing new shares, or taking on debt, are the most common ways for a listed company to raise more money for its business. Many companies end up issuing new shares to fund future growth. Philippine Madrigal Singers embark on U.S. tour

The world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers returned to Houston, Texas for their first performance in the state in 30 years.


Texas is one of the stops in their three-month U.S. tour to mark their 60th founding anniversary.


Formed in 1963, the choir is one of the world’s most awarded, and is known for its wide repertoire of various styles and forms.


“The last time we were on tour in the U.S. was in 2017 and then the pandemic came,” said Mark Anthony Carpio, choir director. “So we decided last year that it’s about time that we reach out to the Filipinos here in the U.S. and, of course, in Texas.”


The concert, which was sold out weeks in advance, was a fundraising effort for a local charity. The “Madz,” known for their philanthropic work, said they were more than happy to lend their voices to support the cause.


“The proceeds from the Madrigal Singers concert are going towards the 1934 Youth Center,” said Fr. Phillip White. “The youth center has been renovated recently and we’re still in the process, so that will help us greatly.”


The Madrigal Singers performed a wide range of musical styles consisting of classical songs, folk, pop, and Spanish selections.


The choral specializes in the Madrigal, a genre of non-religious unaccompanied vocal music that became extremely popular in Europe during the 16th century.


It has since served as the inspiration for the Madz’ unique style of performing, with singers seated in a semicircle without a conductor.


“I’m really excited to be back here,” said Madrigal singer Jeanie Lynne. “It’s a big, big blessing that we got to return here.


The Mayor of Conroe awarded the Madrigal Singers a key to the city and proclaimed April 22 as the Madrigal Singers Day.


“I think they realize that Houston is an important city to visit and that there’s a substantial Filipino community here,” said Jerill Santos, the Philippine consul general to Houston. “It’s about time that the Philippine community is recognized as a group.”


The Madrigal Singers’ 27-city U.S. tour which began in the West Coast will proceed to the Midwest and to the East Coast.
